The cosmos of Mahlerrsquo; songs is by nature smaller and more straightforward than that of his symphonies, hence the technical style of the songs is also simpler and more limited, never touching upon the borders of the possible in this musical world, as do the symphonies. Yet within these narrow confines and with this modest vocabulary, Mahler achieves an intensity of expression which is hardly inferior to that of his symphonies.

Christoph Prégardien - Born in Limburg in 1956, Christoph Prégardien began his musical career as a cathedral choir boy. Later he studied voice with Martin Gründler and Karlheinz Jarius in Frankfurt, Carla Castellani in Milan and Alois Treml in Stuttgart, as well as lied singing with Hartmut Höll at the Frankfurt School of Music. Christoph Prégardien is one of the most outstanding lyric tenors of the present day and works together with the conductors Barenboim, Chailly, Gardiner, Harnoncourt, Herreweghe, Luisi, Metzmacher, Nagano, Sawallisch and Thielemann, among others. His repertoire includes the major oratorios and Passions from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, as well as works of the seventeenth century and the twentieth.
