The hymns of Martin Luther have inspired the hearts of the faithful for centuries. Luther himself said that the purpose of music was to 'entertain, educate and edify' - all characteristics witnessed by the enduring popularity of his chorals with both congregations and musicians.

Occupying pride of place on Disc One, is music from the Prince of Luther's composers, Johann Sebastian Bach. On Disc Two, we encounter Luther's hymns as they influenced both in the works of his contemporaries (Praetorius et al) and later generations (Mendelssohn).
